The lava-lined western coast of the Big Island, also known as the “Kona Side,” is a dream. This side of Hawaii is almost always dry and sunny due to local weather conditions and the waters, shielded from winds by Mauna Loa, are mostly clear and calm, making it perfect for water adventure and dolphin and honu spotting.
The view by the Four Seasons Resort Hualalai is especially worth noting. Not only is the resort itself gorgeous, but it is built into an unearthly contrast with the black lava that surrounds it and for a split second, you feel like you are walking on the moon. And the paved pathway also makes it easy to take it slow and leisurely make your way along the coast while taking in the views and not having to worry much else.
We love the Big Island. Lava makes for the loveliest backdrop, doesn’t it?
